I launched my original site in 1996 that has now morphed into my blog philmckinney.com.

I write about innovation, creativity and leadership. On occasion, I write about stuff that doesn’t fit into one of these buckets.

I also have a weekly nationally syndicated radio show and podcast called Killer Innovations – now in its twelfth season.

I cover similar topics as those on the blog with the added twist of inviting leading innovators on the show to share their personal story of innovation and creative success.

You can participate by asking questions during the show by watching it live each Sunday at 5:00 PM East – 2:00 PM West. You can also find the show on iTunes and Google Play for Android. 

My goal is to create insightful, relevant content that you can put to work in achieving your innovation success. If you consider yourself an innovator — someone who wants to impact the world with innovation — then this blog and podcast are for you.

My Biography

I’m the former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Hewlett-Packard. At the time I retired, it was the largest technology company in the world. I was with HP for nearly 10 years retiring at the end of 2011.

I’ve been in the technology innovation game my entire career.

I’ve started more than a dozen tech startups  with the vast majority having successful exits including successful IPO’s.

My first book, Beyond The Obvious, has won multiple awards and recognitions and has been translated into Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and soon Russian.

My Family

I have been married to my wife for more than thirty-five years. We have two daughters, a son, three granddaughters and a grandson. 

We live in Northern Colorado with frequent visits to Silicon Valley.

In my freetime, my family and I run two 501(c)3 non-profits:

  • HackingAutism.org – A charity that hosts hack-a-thons to find solutions to autism therapy, employment for those on the spectrum and technologies that could be beneficial for those with autism.
  • Pioneer.Education – We are building a school and the curriculum that will teach innovation and entrepreneurship so that the graduates can create employment opportunities in Rwanda.

100% of the profits from the book, radio show, etc are donated to the non-profits.
